Tamsyn Challenger, Twitter Chorus, 2016, performance
In Twitter Chorus a choir performs recent tweets, orchestrated by artist Tamsyn Challenger. The artwork's soundscape embodies both the pithiness of an individual tweet and the monolithic soundwall created by millions of tweets constantly teeming from Twitter, as voices from local community choirs in Brighton and Newhaven bring the online realm into physical reality in a unique performance that provides an alternative way to think about representation. The performance will be followed by an artist talk with Tamsyn Challenger.
Tamsyn Challenger is a British artist based in London, Cornwall and Scotland. Since 2010 her work has been exhibited across the UK and internationally. The project 'Twitter Chorus', voiced for the first time in 2015 at the Southbank Centre, is a development of the ideas behind her installation 'Monoculture', which explores the 'selfie' portrait and self-representation in an age of social media, sexuality and the effects of cultural homogeneity. Her most recent work HYPER BOWL was launched at Summerhall visual arts festival earlier this year.
