Des récits sur la carte : East Sussex (Stories on the map: East Sussex) presents the recordings of meetings between Sabina Kassoumova and residents of East Sussex. These people all have a common characteristic, which they also share with the artist: they are all expatriates. Originating from twelve different countries they now live in Newhaven, Peacehaven, Eastbourne, Brighton, Seaford, Stone Cross, Offham, or Alfriston. Having made an acquaintance with the filmmaker, they deliver their stories facing the camera, sharing anecdotes, criticisms, their feelings about their expatriate status, their countries, their past and their present. In this way, Sabina Kassoumova explores territories, giving priority to personal accounts and allowing individual experiences to draw the landscape of a collective situation.
Sabina Kassoumova graduated from the Paris-Cergy School of Fine Arts in 2014 with first class honours. While documentary video makes up the core of her work, performances, drawings and photographs complement an artistic approach built on the foundations of sociological inquiry.
