Justine Pluvinage, Le Dernier Mot (The Last Word)

In Justine Pluvinage’s work, intimacy encompasses all its physical and psychological meanings: the strictly personal, the confidential and the bare body. Resilience is also a recurrent theme. It is expressed from her earliest video pieces from 2007 and 2009, through the intimate and intimist portraits of women who have had to deal with traumatic events: rape, separation, the loss of a child… While the images depict their everyday lives, the voiceovers recount their experiences, what they have been through and continue to go through. The gap between sound and image makes the sharing of their trauma more audible. Through listening, we measure the importance of speaking in the process of healing.

 

After studying psychology, Justine Pluvinage graduated from the National School of Photography in Arles in 2009, and from Le Fresnoy in 2015. Her practice, which hovers between video art, documentary and fiction, has been shown at FOAM in Amsterdam and in the “modules” of Palais de Tokyo in Paris.
