Morgane Vié, Sur l'autre rive (On the other bank)

installation, 2016

Morgane Vié’s project Sur l'autre rive (On the other bank), takes place between Dieppe and Newhaven and questions the visible and hidden links between the two towns. In the tradition of photographs from a mobile studio, Morgane invites passers-by to make their own portraits. In Dieppe she provides as a backdrop, a view of the pier in Newhaven, photographed for the occasion. In Newhaven, the Dieppe jetty is the background against which the portraits are taken. This project recalls a photographic practice once popular in France, and which remains so in many countries.

A graduate of the Besançon School of Fine Arts in 2012, Morgane Vié also studied photography in Istanbul and at La Cambre in Brussels. She now lives and works in Paris. Her preoccupations centre upon the practice of photography in a cultural and social context, past and present, as well as around the issue of “elsewhere”, in the broadest possible sense.
