Hélène Fischer, Souvenirs citadins

installation, 2016

produced by diep~haven

In Souvenirs Citadins (Metropolitan Memories) Helene Fischer took her inspiration from the city of Dieppe’s slogan: "It’s your lives that make the city," as a means to make contact with the region’s inhabitants. She asked each participant to share an anecdote: a memory (historical or personal, sentimental or dissenting) linked to a street or a place. During the festival, the resulting collection of photographs and memorabilia is made visible in two ways: in the form of an exhibition installation, and online via a Google map. Visitors can continue to feed the project, adding to the narrated events and thus participate in the creation of a portrait of the city, which combines the rich history of the Normandy region with the current desire for a better life there.

Born in 1987, Helene Fischer lives and works in Rennes. A graduate of Nantes School of Fine Arts in 2011 and of the Rouen School of Fine Arts in 2013 her work focuses on the imperfections, memories and sensitivities of the human condition, in a society increasingly dominated by the machine and the digital age.
